Ryukyu takes its name from the historic kingdom of the islands now centred around Okinawa, Japan — a place that also sits quietly behind one of the influences that shaped this release.

Inspired by the precision, restraint and craftsmanship associated with Hattori Hanzo, Ryukyu draws from both the history behind the name and its place in modern culture. Rather than reproducing any single object, those influences have been interpreted through Omen — raw brass, blackened surfaces, sharp geometry, flashes of red and an obsessive attention to the way a tool is made.

The Ryukyu Blade was designed from the ground up as a purpose-built pitch repair tool.

Machined from 6.5mm thick solid brass, every element of the Blade has been considered around its function — from the profile and balance in hand to the geometry of the working edge, contoured thumb pocket, angled and stepped edges, and precision ball-milled prongs.

More than 200 hours of development went into refining the design, prototyping the form and perfecting the manufacturing process before entering production.

The machined surface is finished by hand before a deep patina is applied and brushed back to expose the brass beneath. A contrasting red polymer inlay takes inspiration from traditional Japanese maker seals and completes the piece.

Designed as a tool. Made like an artefact.
