Ryukyu takes its name from the historic kingdom of the islands now centred around Okinawa, Japan — a place that also sits quietly behind one of the influences that shaped this release.

Inspired by the precision, restraint and craftsmanship associated with Hattori Hanzo, Ryukyu draws from both the history behind the name and its place in modern culture. It isn't a reproduction or tribute to any single object, but an interpretation of that world through Omen — brass, blackened surfaces, sharp geometry, flashes of red and an obsessive attention to the way a tool is made.

The Ryukyu Crest translates that language into a 38mm solid brass ball marker.

Rather than relying on a conventional circular profile, the Crest introduces a deliberately asymmetric form, breaking the expected geometry of a ball marker while retaining its familiar 38mm footprint. Stepped edges echo the profile of the Ryukyu Blade, while a chamfered lower edge creates a sharp transition between its sculpted face and underside.

Its face is dominated by a deeply machined wave field, cut directly into the brass with the toolpaths intentionally left visible. As light moves across the surface, those paths reveal the movement of the cutter and create a constantly changing texture across the marker.

That machining language continues onto the reverse. Fine, closely spaced toolpaths run across the back, creating a subtle striped finish reminiscent of woven suiting fabric — taking something normally considered a by-product of machining and deliberately making it part of the finished piece.

The Crest is then darkened with a deep patina and individually brushed back by hand, exposing the high points, edges and machining beneath. The process emphasises the geometry while giving every piece subtle variations of its own.

At its centre sits the signature red polymer inlay — a deliberate point of contrast against the aged brass and a recurring element throughout the Ryukyu release.

Machined from raw brass bar and finished individually in the Omen workshop, the Crest was designed alongside the Blade rather than adapted from it — two distinct pieces sharing the same material, stepped geometry, visible machining and design language.
